This is a rare collectible hardcover in slipcase. 1935 "Birthday Edition" Little Brown Publishing. This edition was published on the anniversary of the First Edition which was published in 1934. These birthday editions were limited to 600 copies and signed by the author and illustrator. This copy is number 401 of 600. It is very good inside, with natural tanning to pages but they are clean and still crisp. This edition has charming illustrations by H.M. Brock throughout. Quarter Japanese vellum over paper colored boards. The edition has the deckle edge pages and is in very good condition. The binding is tight and straight. There is very little wearing to the cover as has been kept in slipcase. The slipcase itself is good, still solidly intact with the title, birthday edition and number 401 pasted on the edge. There is foxing to the slipcase (see last photo). It is in good condition to protect the hardcover collectible.
This beloved novel is about the life of a schoolteacher, Mr Chipping, written by James Hilton and first published in 1934. It has been adapted into two films and several television presentations.
