This is a near fine (almost like new) collectible leather bound hardcover. Franklin Library 1977 Signed Limited Edition. This edition is finely bound in genuine leather and accented w 22kt gold gilt lettering. All 3 page edges tipped in gold gilt. Moire fabric endpapers with attached silk ribbon bookmark. Full leather with hubbed spine. Printed on archival paper. NOTE: the author signature is slightly worn and the tissue guard is in place. There is light minor foxing spots on signature page and tissue guard but no major foxing seen inside. The moire fabric endpapers are slightly darkening from age but still clean and very good. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9".
This is an award winning, non-fiction book recounting the American Civil War's final year. It describes the campaigns of Grant in Virginia during 1864 to the end of the war in 1865. It is the final volume of the Army of the Potomac trilogy. The author used various collections of unpublished letters written by Federal soldiers, personal diaries, memoirs of soldiers, and official war records in his research for the book. The book won the National Book Award for Nonfiction in 1954. It is a true collectible especially in this Franklin Library edition, signed by the author.
