This is the 1960 novel by John Updike and depicts 3 months in the life of a former high school basketball player named Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom. Harry is trapped in a loveless marriage, boring sales job and about to become a father for the second time. Harry is unsatisfied with his life and its direction. In an attempt to "escape" he leaves town, gets lost, returns to town but cannot bring himself to go home. Instead he visits his old coach. He takes up w a part-time prostitute, moves in with her, and things escalate from there. Things get worse and worse for Harry, his wife and tragically, his young daughter. Sex, religion and other themes make this classic literature. The book left Harry's fate uncertain thus spawning 3 more books. This first installment is a treasure, especially in this Franklin Library Limited edition.
