This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1974 Random House Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are very good and clean. The binding is tight and straight featuring a fine sewn binding (not glued) for durability and aesthetics. Hardcover boards under jacket are very good with only very light shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good but does show light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 1106 pages including index. Illustrated maps front and back endpapers.

The Civil War: A Narrative is a monumental three-volume history of the American Civil War written by novelist and historian Shelby Foote. The trilogy was published between 1958-1974. Thsi is Volume Three ONLY, The Civil War a Narrative Red River to Appomattox. The book opens with the beginning of the two final major confrontations of the war: Grant against Lee in Virginia, and Sherman pressing Johnston in North Georgia. With Grant and Lee deadlocked at Petersburg, Sherman takes Atlanta and ensures Lincoln's reelection. The book culminates with Lee at Appomattox, Davis's flight south from Richmond, and Lincoln's death at Fords Theater. The epilogue is Lincoln in his grave and Davis in his posthumous existence. The book features 49 maps especially drawn for the volume and color endpapers front and back.
