This is a very good hardcover with a good accompanying dust jacket. 1983 Presidio Press. This copy is very good and clean inside and out. The inside pages are actually still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Red hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear and feature black quarter trim and silver lettering along spine. The accompanying dust jacket is good, clean, still holding some shine but does have shelf wear corners/edges. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 253 pages. Illustrated maps front and back endpapers.
Target Ploesti View From a Bombsight by Leroy W. Newby is the story of the Allied determinatin to destroy the Ploesti oil fields in Romania, a vital supply source for the German Army during World War Two. Newby began his tour of duty with the 15th Air Force, 460th Bombardment Group in 1943 and returned to the United States in 1944. Readers learn not only of the author but of his crew and their stuffed mascot. The book follows them from their base to raids both successful and not. In addition readers learn of bombers, bombsights, and bombings and how a bombardier fixed on his target during World War ll.
In addition to the detailed text, there are vintage photos and appendices that feature Operations, Air Objective Folders, Operations Orders, Mission Details, Facts About Ploesti and Ploesti Medal of Honor Recipients.
