This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1992 BBC Adventure Books. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Olive green hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and featuring gold lettering along spine. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny with only hints of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 206 pages including index.

This book traces Francois Odendaal's three expeditions to raft this extraordinary river. he book serves as a geographical, environmental and historical celebration of South America and the courage, devotion and adventure of exploration. It is an account of Odendall and his dream to travel the length of the Amazon River. The first attempt was in 1981 with a grueling ascent of the Andes. Once on the water, the expedition continued by raft and kayak through the deadly Pongo de Mainique Gorge until it was ended with the break up of the team's raft.
The second expedition was plagued by hardship too. Undaunted by the first two expeditions, the 3,500 mile journey was once again tried in 1991.
Much was learned on the third attempt as chronicled in the book.
