This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. First Edition 1996 St Martins Press. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Black hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature gold lettering along spine. The accompanying dust jacket is very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 338 pages including index.
Quantrill's War: The Life and Times of William Clarke Quantrill, 1837-1865 by author Duane Schultz examines the life of the infamous Civil War bushwhacker and Confederate captain, William Clarke Quantrill. For Clarke, a career criminal, the Civil War was an opportunity to legitimately practice theft, destruction and murder. He rampaged freely as a Confederate captain. The book recounts the guerrilla raids and ambushes he led. He attracted more than 300 men including Frank James (his younger brother Jessie later joined them) Cole Younger and more. The worse of the crimes is detailed in the sacking of Lawrence, Kansas, he ordered the massacre of 185 men and boys.
