This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. Fourth Printing 1975 Knopf Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are very good and clean. NOTE: there is dust spotting along top outer page edges, does not carry over to inside, see photo. The binding is tight and straight. Brown cloth hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good but does have light shelf wear mostly to back of jacket. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 561 pages.

The critically acclaimed book is an oral history and autobiography that chronicles the incredible life of Ned Cobb, a Black tenant farmer fromAlabama who was given the pseudonym "Nate Shaw".
The book is an uncompromising look at the post-Reconstruction Southern Black experience, stretching from the late 19th century through the early Civil Rights Movement.
The book is edited from the 1500 page transcription of Nate's spoken recollections. His experience embodies history, the realities of the Deep South and Reconstruction.
