This is a very good hardcover. 1951 Shakespeare House Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are still very good and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Slate cloth hardcover boards are also very good and feature black quarter trim "Bard" design stamped front cover. Attached satin bookmark frayed at bottom edge but attached and good. smaller hardcover, 16mo book size or 4.5" x 7" with 628 pages. Top page edges tipped in gold gilt.
The Collected Works of Pierre Louys contains an Intro to Louys life and work from the Editors of the edition. Louys was a French poet and novelist born in Belgium. He was the son of a well-to-do family related to many great Frenchmen including Victor Hugo. No surprise then that his interest was in the literary world. His work is known for decadence and his masterpiece, Aphrodite, is included in this volume. Other selections include The Songs of Bilitis, The Wearer of Purple, A New Sensation, The Confession of Mademoiselle X, The Venetian Blind and more.
