This is a very good 2 volume set of hardcovers. Circa 1920's Thomas Nelson Publishing. This set is very good inside and out w only minor condition flaws. The inside pages of both volumes are very good and clean. There is some light tanning inside front and back endpapers of the volumes, see photo, but pages inside clean with only a hint of light natural tanning from age. The bindings are tight and straight, all pages tight to binding but you can notice minor "cracks" to binding if closely examined. Binding cracks are common to vintage books and severity depends on if pages are loose. Red hardcover boards are very good and clean with light shelf wear and feature design front and gold lettering along spine. This series of books published by Nelson were designed to be "pocket books" for carrying in purse or pocket and read anywhere. They are each 18mo book size or 4.5" x 6".
Originally titled The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, it was the first novel Dickens published in 1837. The club is designed for members to travel the English countryside and report their journeys to other members. A legal battle ensues when Mr Pickwick and his landlady leads to them both being imprisoned for debt. The legal battle became one of the most famous in English literature, Bardell v Pickwick.
