The Mediterranean in History by David Abulafia brought together a team of 8 special historians from various countries to tell the story of the Mediterranean from a description of the physical setting, the prehistoric traders, and the struggle between the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Etruscans ending in Roman victory. It discusses post-Roman nations, Christian powers in the north, Islamic powers in the south, domination by England and France and finally the 20th century divided by war and mass tourism. The volume is richly illustrated with photos and illustrations.
