This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1976 Harper & Row Publishing. This copy is still very good, clean inside and out. The inside pages are actually still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Blue cloth hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny with light shelf wear. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 638 pages.

The Impending Crisis 1848-1861 by David M. Potter examines the problems leading up to the Civil War through the eyes of those who experienced it. The author concentrates on political history analyzing the historical implications of actions and events and challenges traditional interpretations.
In a triumphant win, the United States concluded the treaty with Mexico that ended the Mexican War, acquiring California and the Southwest Territories. The country seemed cohesive and yet less than 15 years later the Civil War broke out. This historical narrative is a detailed and complete analysis.
