Sarmiento's Travels in the United States in 1847 is a detailed account of the first visit of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. Sarmiento was an Argentine educator, statesman and writer. He was self educated in the model of Benjamin Franklin and he laid the foundations for Latin American public education. He was a great admirer of the United States and made several trips including his second trip in 1860.
The book is a bland of social commentary and rare vignettes of the America of the period. The author Intro essay suggests it was time to turn from traditional attachments to Europe and to the very real cultural affinities between North and South America.
