This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1996 Blue & Grey Press. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are still crisp and clean and only have a hint of light natural tanning to pages along outer edges. The binding is tight and straight. Grey hardcover hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear The accompanying dust jacket is near fine with only very light shelf wear, Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 839 pages including index.
Annals of the War Written by Leading Participants North & South was originally a series created by Alexander K. McClure a Philadephia newspaper man and supporter of Lincoln. He was appalled by "imperfect" histories that had been previously published. In 1878 he launched a series with both Union and Confederate participants and their histories of the war. Great generals were recalled by their men, great battles were recalled by the actual participants. There were civilian contributions too. The result is a definitive narrative still referred to today.
