This is a very good hardcover in a good dust jacket. 1956 Nelson Doubleday Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are very good and clean. NOTE: previous owners name neatly written inside front cover, see photo. Rest of pages very clean. The binding is tight and straight. Tan hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is good, still clean and mostly shiny but showing shelf wear along top edge front and shelf wear small tears top edge back. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8.5" with 318 pages.
Jack and Jill by Louisa May Alcott is not your favorite nursery rhyme so familiar to most. This children's story carries all the charm and appeal of the authors other works.
Published in 1880, the story is about best friends Jack and Janey (nicknamed Jill) in a fictional New England town. The two best friends suffer a serious sledding accident. The story follows their long recovery over the winter. Their friends and families create activities like plays and holiday celebrations to keep them entertained. The story teaches them valuable life lessons about resilience, friendship, and growing up.
This edition is delightfully illustrated throughout with black and white sketches by Ruth Ives along with a full color frontispiece.
