This is a near fine collectible hardcover with dust jacket. Volume One of Readers Digest Condensed Books, Winter 1967 Five Novels. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear. Top page edges tipped in gold gilt. Crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 574 pages.
This is Volume One, Winter 1967 Readers Digest Condensed Books. It contains five classic novels, all CONDENSED or abridged. Reader's Digest Condensed Books in the 1960s were immensely popular. They were quarterly anthologies with condensed popular novels. The abridgment retained main plots, themes, and characters and often featured original illustrations. There were a curated selection of 4-5 novels in each edition.
This Winter 1967 Selection contains the following: The Town and Dr. Moore by Agatha Young, The Captain by Jan De Hartog, Flight From a Firing Wall by Maynard Kendrick, The Headmaster by John McPhee, and I Start Counting by Audrey Erskine Lindop. Each novel does include original color illustrations.
