This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1955 Illustrated Junior Library series Nelson DoubleDay Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. NOTE: hardcover boards are very good but there is mild wear/fraying along top edge of hardcover boards at spine, see photo. The inside pages are very good and clean with only very light natural tanning from age. The binding is tight and straight. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 285 pages.
Junior Deluxe Edition books were a series of children's books published from the late 1940's through the 1960's. Originally published by Nelson DoubleDay Publishing, there have been multiple publishers over the years. Some of the versions feature multiple stories and most of those are abridged volumes. Generally, the volumes featuring single stories are complete.
This is Rip Van Winkle and Other Stories by Washington Irving. Other stories include; The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Legend of the Storm Ship, The Devil and Tom Walker, The Phantom Island and more. And of course the classic favorite Rip Van Winkle is included. The edition is nicely illustrated by Susanne Suba with black and white sketches and a full color frontispiece.
