National Velvet by Enid Bagnold 1958 Illustrated Junior Deluxe series Nelson DoubleDay Publishing Children's books

This is a good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing but does include the original insert pamphlet. 1958 Illustrated Junior Library series Nelson DoubleDay Publishing. NOTE: there is mild wear to top edge of hardcover along spine, and appears to be a very mild light stain outer top page edges that does not carry over to inside, see photos. The inside pages are clean and very good. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards are solid and clean with only light shelf wear including previously mentioned light wear top edge of spine. Only mild fading to spine. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 288 pages.

Junior Deluxe Edition books were a series of children's books published from the late 1940's through the 1960's. Originally published by Nelson DoubleDay Publishing, there have been multiple publishers over the years. Some of the versions feature multiple stories and most of those are abridged volumes. Generally, the volumes featuring single stories are complete.

This is National Velvet by Enid Bagnold. To explain the insert that accompanied this volume, the inserts were place in the book and featured the NEXT months volume. So given this insert is actually for this title, National Velvet, the previous owner removed the insert from the PREVIOUS book received and placed it in the following months book to match the insert with the titled edition. Inserts were place in the series to let subscribers know what title was coming the following month. It is a nice touch to have the insert matching the book title as it was saved and place in the book when it arrived.

National Velvet by Enid Bagnold was first published in 1935. It is the classic children's story of a girl and her horse as they work for and win jumping competitions. Velvet Brown won her horse at a village lottery and came to love the wild horse who not tamed. But she knew he was only lonely and needed love. Their story is one of the most beloved in children's literature. This edition is nicely illustrated by Walter Seaton with black and white sketches and a full color frontispiece.
