This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1955 Nelson Doubleday Publishing. This copy is very good and clean inside and out. NOTE: there is some natural tanning to illustrated endpapers, see photo, and rest of text pages shows only light natural tanning from age and are very clean. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards are very good, clean with light shelf wear and top of spine showing some wear/fray but mild. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 188 pages.
Illustrated Jr. Deluxe Edition books were a series of children's books published from the late 1940's through the 1960's. Originally published by Nelson DoubleDay Publishing, there have been multiple publishers over the years. Some of the versions feature multiple stories and most of those are abridged volumes. Generally, the volumes featuring single stories are complete.
This is The Little Duke by Charlotte M. Yonge. It is nicely illustrated by Tom O'Sullivan with black and white sketches and a full color frontispiece. The story is historical fiction, first published in 1854, about Richard the Fearless, who becomes the Duke of Normandy after the murder of his father. Richard was only 8 years old. He faces trials of courage, disappointment, and responsibilities. It short story is considered a classic of childrens literature.
