This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 2010 Modern Library. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Tan hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 1101 pages including eight excerpts published by Ellison. Modern Library logo illustrated endpapers.
At the time of his death in 1994, Ralph Ellison left behind several thousand pages of his unfinished second novel. He had spent nearly four decades writing it. It was to be the follow up to Invisible Man. This book gathers together for the first time all the parts of the planned opus, including three sequences never before published. The story is a gripping multigenerational saga centered on the death of a Senator, Daddy Hickman who tended to him, and the black Jazz musician turned preacher who raised the orphan Sunraider in rural Georgia. The book has been edited by John F. Callahan and Adam Bradley.
