This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase. 2004 Folio Society. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Finely bound in maroon leather, the hardcover boards are near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature gold accents and lettering. The accompanying slipcase is very good with only very light shelf wear. Color illustrated maps front and back endpapers. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 722 pages including index.
Democracy in America by Alexis De Tocqueville was originally published in two volumes in the years 1935 and 1840. French observer Tocqueville combed the work after visiting the United States. the work has long been considered a valuable contribution to history and politics.
