This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 1993 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. Bound in blue leather, the cover features gold design front and back. Additional fine binding appointments include Smyth sewn binding, blue silk moiré fabric endpapers, and hubbed spine. All three page edges tipped in gold gilt. Attached blue satin bookmark. The inside pages are still crisp and clean and printed on acid-neutral paper. This copy contains the original Collectors Notes from Easton Press.
Originally published in 1942, The Stranger by Albert Camus is a novel about a French Algerian man named Meursault who kills an Arab man on a beach just after his mother's funeral. This act leads to his trial, and subsequent condemnation for his indifference to societal norms as much as for the murder itself. The novel explores themes of alienation and the meaninglessness of existence. The story is split into two parts, narrating Meursault's life before and after the crime. It is an acclaimed work of 20th century literature. Albert Camus won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957, not for a single book for for his body of work with special notations for The Stranger, The Plague and The Fall.
