Originally published in 1966, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is a non-fiction novel detailing the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, and the two drifters who committed the crime, Richard Hickock and Perry Smith. The book marked a "new genre" of journalism, meticulously reconstructing the crime, the investigation, and the killers' lives. It further explored the nature of American violence and the psychology of the murderers.
