This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 2004 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. Bound in fine brown leather, the cover features gold design and Roosevelt silhouette front and back. The fine binding appointments include Smyth sewn fine binding, hubbed spine with all three page edges tipped in gold gilt. Silk moire endpapers and attached gold satin bookmark. Inside pages are still crisp and clean with acid neutral paper completing the fine binding. This copy includes the accompanying Easton Press bookplate for owner. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 320 pages including appendix.
The Rough Riders by Theodore Roosevelt is his memoir of The Spanish American War which was first published in 1899. Roosevelt served in the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry during the war and chronicles the regiment's formation from cowboys, Ivy Leaguers and others. They trained in Texas and battles in Cuba are highlighted by the famous charge up San Juan Hill, which cemented Roosevelt's heroic image. The book is a firsthand account of the war.
