This is one of The Oxford Illustrated Dickens. The set was originally published in 1954 and reprinted in 1989. This collectible series is regarded as the most comprehensive illustrated Dickens. Each volume contains original illustrations, many of which appeared in the works first editions. The text is derived from the Charles Dickens Edition, revised by the author in the 1860's.
This is David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. Originally published as a serial in 1849-1850, it was published as a novel in late 1850. It follows the life of David Copperfield as he leaves infancy into maturity. David is raised by his child-like mother and their housekeeper. Upon his mothers marriage, he is sent await 7 years old. When he returns, he develops a dislike for his mothers new husband. Soon after, his mother dies in childbirth along with her baby.
