This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. First Edition 2001 St. Martins Press. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny, also with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 319 pages including index.

Known the world over for his work in human origins, Leakey was serving as Director of Kenya's National Museums when when in 1989 he was appointed to run the country's Wildlife Department. Leakey was aware of the fabulous wildlife population, particularly the elephant. He quickly realized this was more than a job. He was thrust into wildlife wars.
