One Man's Castle by Phyllis Vine is subtitled Clarence Darrow in Defense of the American Dream. In 1925 a black man named Sweet bought a home in Detroit and moved into a white neighborhood. Sweet was a doctor with a loving wife who never dreamed his "American Dream" would turn into a nightmare. The violence that ensued landed him, his wife and others in jail for murder. The NAACP took up the case and hired Clarence Darrow to lead the courtroom drama that followed.
