This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1995 B&N Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Black hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket shows only a hint of shelf wear. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 380 pages.
Oliver Twist, whose famous characters include Fagin, the cruel burglar Bill Sikes, and the wily and impudent pickpocket, The Artful Dodger, was conceived as a criticism of the Poor Law of 1824. The novel painted a new and realistic picture of the London underworld. The story of Oliver's education at the hands of thieves and the eventual stroke of luck that changes his life is one of the most popular in English literature. This was Dickens second novel.
