This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1992 Smithmark Publishing. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. NOTE: previous owners sticker place inside front cover under jacket flap has been marked out, see photo. Rest of inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Navy blue hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 546 pages.
Campaigning With Grant by Horace Porter was originally published in 1897. From April 1864 to the end of the war, Horace Porter served as lieutenant colonel attached to U.S. Grant's staff. He accompanied Grant into battle in The Wilderness, Cold Harbor and Petersburg campaigns. He was there at the final surrender at McLean's house. During this time he kept extensive notes of Grant's conversations as well as his own observations. Through his writings pass some of the other great figures of the war. Sherman, Lincoln and Lee's noble bearing at the culminating meeting of Grant and Lee. It has long been an acclaimed historical account.
