This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1983 Scribners Publishing. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature silver lettering along spine. The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear corners/edges. Royal octavo book site or 7" x 9.5" with 442 pages including index.

Frassanito chronicles the final year of the war, Using meticulous research the author presents a thorough examination and analysis of the photos taken that year. The history is chronicled through 225 views. The photos were taken by O'Sullivan, Gardner, and the cameramen of Matthew Brady. They show entrenchments, river crossings, headquarters, battle sites and more. The author has taken these photos and analyzed historical evidence, original camera positions, (often providing modern photos of the sites) and he also corrects some of the labeling errors from a century ago. The authors first two volumes, Antietam and Gettysburg, chronicled Civil War photography. This book is a visual documentation of the Civil War and its final year.
