This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1995 Konecky and Konecky Publishing reprint from the original 1950 edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Orange hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good with only very light shelf wear corners/edges. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 383 pages including index.
The Gallant Hood by John P. Dyer give a portrait of a man who helped shape American history. It is the story of a warrior who would not give up his dream of an independent South. He was a career soldier and commander of the Texas Brigade. He served both Lee and Jefferson Davis. In July 1864 he assume command of the army formerly commanded by Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. The Tennessee Campaign would lead to the death of 6000 Confederate soldiers.
