The Chisholm Trail by Wayne Gard is a detailed history based in interviews with surviving trail drivers, communities along the way, archives and records . For more than a dozen years following 1867, The Chisholm Trail was the Texas cowhand's road to high adventure. It offered sudden stampedes, hazardous river crossings, and Indian marauders. At the end of the drive it promised celebrations in saloons, gambling parlors and dance halls. The book is illustrated with drawings by Nick Eggenhoffer along with vintage photos.
