In The Shadow of Man by Jane (van Lawick) Goodall is her account of life among the wild chimpanzees and illustrated with photos by Hugo van Lawick. It is one of the most enthralling animal behavior stories ever written. Her adventures began in 1960 when the famous anthropologist Leakey suggested a long-term study of chimpanzees in the wild would be a historic scientific study. Goodall set up camp in the remote Gombe Reserve in Tanzania. It initially seemed hopeless to get close but after months she was no longer feared and her presence accepted. Her findings made history and the lessons endless. The book is an amazing story and enduring legacy.
