In Leon Borstein's book, Jefferson's Children Education and The Promise of American Culture, he takes on the cultural pessimists who he believes are harming our youth and damaging our democracy. He finds many believe things were "better" in the old days and romanticize the past. But he demonstrates that America has become a stronger, better culture than before. He feels much more needs to be done but that the most important thing is to instill in our kids a forward-looking culture of possibility. The book offers concrete solutions for citizens, schools and more to encourage engagement in the wider world and foster imaginative powers. It is an exploration of the promise of American culture, education and democracy.
