This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. INSCRIBED by author on title page, "Dear Al A thousand thanks for all your help. I hope all your Big Plans come true ! Ken". 2001 The John Hopkins University Press. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Brown hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny with only a hint of shelf wear. The author discussed the role that serendipity plays in the urban experience. He illustrated this with a narrative of North American urbanism with examples or urban space that include Puritan ideals in Conn., architectural drawings of Burnham for downtown Cleveland, master plans for Paris, as well as L'Enfant's Washington D.C. and more.
