This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1986 Knopf Publishing. NOTE: approx. 50 pages early in the book have sentences underlined in pencil or small note in margin, (see photo) but rest of pages appear unmarked. Despite the early markings the inside pages are very clean and still crisp. The binding is tight and straight. Grey hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear and feature blue cloth quarter trim with gold lettering along spine. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 638 pages including index.
Emily Dickinson by Cynthia Griffin Wolff gives all the details of the poet's life, including her ancestry and family connections to the strongly Puritan New England town of Amherst. It delves into her childhood, schooling at Amherst Academy, and relationships with her sickly mother, distant father and beloved siblings. The book features vintage photos of family, Dickinson herself, and locations of importance.
