This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1988 First American Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. NOTE: only markings seen is a gift inscription on first blank page. Rest of pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny with only a hint of shelf wear but IS neatly price clipped inside front flap. Hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear and feature full color illustration matching jacket.
Henry James on Italy is a personal account from one of the greatest literary writers and a great travel document. The book is illustrated throughout with contemporary drawings and full color paintings by Pritchett, Turner, Corot and others. James first visited Italy in 1869 and returned in 1872 for two years in Rome as correspondent of The Nation. He continued to visit for the rest of his life.
