Great Books First Year Readings Set 14 paperbacks in slipcase circa 1940's Great Books Foundation Regnery Publishing Philosophy History book

This is a good set of 14 small paperbacks in a sturdy but worn slipcase. These were published in the 1940's and republished in later editions. this set is believed to be a 1948 set although there is no printing information aside from publisher; Regnery Publishing for the Great Books Foundation. There SHOULD be 16 different titles in this set BUT NOTE this set only has 14 of the original paperbacks. See additional description for missing titles. Each of these paperbacks are good condition. There is light shelf wear to most of them but the bindings are tight and straight with pages tight to binding. St Thomas Aquinas Treatise on Law has an ink mark and scuff front cover but still good condition as described. Montaigne of The Education of Children and Other Essays has a stain front cover and some wrinkled pages but good overall as described. Each paperback is 12mo book size or 5" x 7". The accompanying original slipcase is study and solid, gold in color with shelf wear showing.

This set was designed as an introduction to philosophy/history writings or a "foundation" for beginning reading titled as Great Books First Year Readings by Great Books Foundation, Chicago. The missing titles in this set are; St. Augustine's Confessions and Locke Of Civil Government, Second Essay. Included titles in this set are; The Declaration of Independence and Bible Selections, Plato Apology, Crito, Republic, Thucydides The History of the Peloponnesian War- with original pull out map, Aristophanes, Aristotle Ethics-Politics, Plutarch's Lives, St Thomas Aquinas Treatise on Law, Machiavelli The Prince, Montaigne selected Essays, Hamlet by Shakespeare, Rousseau The Social Contract, The Federalist Papers, Adam Smith The Wealth of Nations, and Marx.
