This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1980 Morningside Books facsimile copy from the original 1960 Bobbs Merrill Publishing edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. NOTE: previous owners name marked out inside front cover, see photo. Rest of inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards under jacket are very good with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature gold lettering along spine. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 397 pages including index.
Hancock The Superb by Glenn Tucker was originally published by Bobbs Merrill in 1960. It is the life story of Civil War General Winfield Scott Hancock. In the early fighting on the Peninsula, McClellan reported "Hancock was superb". Before long, people began referring to him as that and he earned it over the next 3 years. The book was well researched and detailed. It highlights some of Hancock's work with Grant at Spotsylvania and in The Wilderness which the author feels is some of the most fascinating of Hancock's career and makes a good case for his "superb" ranking. Maps, vintage photos and illustrations highlight the text.
