This is a good 2 volume set of hardcovers. 1899 The Colonial Press, The Worlds Great Classics series. PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION, BOOKS ARE 126 YRS OLD. The pages inside are good, and when published to save costs, the paper used appears uncut, rough uneven edges. Some of the pages are actually slightly smaller than others leaving a rough cut leafed appearance, see photos. PLEASE NOTE You will find some pages "uncut" which means the publisher used one sheet, printed both sides front and back, and then founded in half and bound as uncut leaving the inside or back of the printed page "uncut" which can be opened with a simple cut to the uncut edge. This is very common in books of this type and age. It is a unique occurrence but not harmful. We have chosen to preserve the book is bound and not open the uncut pages. The pages are clean with light natural tanning from age, the paper used is somewhat stiff, fairly decent quality for the time period. Top page edges tipped in gold gilt which is showing wear. The binding is tight and all pages tight to binding. Black and white illustrated frontispiece. The volume is bound in red hardcover boards which are good condition with light shelf wear. The title lettering along spine is very good, clean and still legible but lightly worn. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" each

This two volume set is Principles of Political Economy by John Stuart Mill. It is subtitled With Some of Their Applications to Social Philosophy. It contains a special Intro by Arthur T. Hadley, President of Yale University until 1899. Both volume feature an illustrated frontispiece with original tissue guard still in place.
