This is a good 2 volume set of hardcovers. PLEASE NOTE DESCRIPTION AS THE SET IS 125 YRS OLD The set is good inside and out. This was published as a 25 volume set and this offering is for the 2 volume set, David Copperfield. The pages inside both volumes is good, and when published to save costs, the paper used appears uncut, uneven edges. Some of the pages are actually slightly smaller than others leaving a rough cut leafed appearance, see photos. The pages are clean, the paper used is somewhat stiff, fairly decent quality for the time period. Top page edges tipped in gold gilt. The binding is tight and all pages tight to binding. Both volumes have a color illustrated frontispiece with the original tissue guard still in place. Multiple additional black and white illustrations in each volume. The volumes are bound in red hardcover boards which are good condition with light shelf wear. The title lettering along spine is worn, legible but worn. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" each.
Originally published as a serial in 1849-1850, David Copperfield by Charles Dickens was published as a novel in late 1850. It follows the life of David Copperfield as he leaves infancy into maturity. David is raised by his child-like mother and their housekeeper. Upon his mothers marriage, he is sent await 7 years old. When he returns, he develops a dislike for his mother new husband. Soon after, his mother dies in childbirth along with her baby.
