This is a near fine (almost like new) collectible leather bound hardcover. 1983 Time Life Collector's Library of the Civil War series. NOTE: all 3 pages edges tipped in gold gilt and top edges have wearing of the gilt, see photo. Other 2 pages edges no wearing of gilt. This collectors edition has been photographically reproduced from the first edition 1866, thus preserving the authenticity of the original including typographical errors and irregularities. Black leather bound hardcover with gold lettering and embossed illustration of foot soldiers on front cover. Gold tip page edges with red ribbon attached bookmark. Marbled endpapers front and back. Bound in fine sewn binding for aesthetics and durability, the binding is tight and straight. The pages inside are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. Includes original accompanying pamphlet. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 436 pages.

This edition from the Collectors Library of the Civil War is Three Years in the Sixth Corps by George T. Stevens, surgeon of the 77th Regiment New York Volunteers. Even though spare time was in short demand for Civil War surgeons, George Thomas Stevens found time to make notes for one of the earliest and best narratives of the war. His book was one of the very few written by doctors who served. He wrote about major events of the war, Antietam and Gettysburg to name a few. The book is a glimpse of what it was like to be a doctor in the Civil War with all the horrors and demands while lacking many of the medical tools and medicines needed.
