This is a near fine (almost like new) collectible leather bound hardcover. 1983 Time Life Collector's Library of the Civil War series. This collectors edition has been photographically reproduced from the first edition 1903, thus preserving the authenticity of the original including typographical errors and irregularities. Black leather bound hardcover with gold lettering and embossed illustration of foot soldiers on front cover. Gold tip page edges with red ribbon attached bookmark. Marbled endpapers front and back. Bound in fine sewn binding for aesthetics and durability, the binding is tight and straight. The pages inside are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. Original bookplate that accompanied the edition is affixed inside front cover. Includes original accompanying pamphlet. Octavo book size or 5" x 9" with 336 pages.
This edition from Time Life Collectors Library of the Civil War series is Memories by Fannie A Beers. It is subtitled A Record of Personal Experience and Adventure During Four Years of War. When the Civil War began there were no trained nurses among Southern women. A few determined women managed to break through the men-only nurse corp. Among them was Fannie A. Beers. In 1888 she published Memories. It was a recollection of treating Union and Confederate soldiers during the war. At one time she supervised over 1000 beds filled with sick and wounded.
