The Lore of The Train by C. Hamilton Ellis concentrated on the train itself. It features all the components - steam, electric, oil-propelled locomotives and passenger, freight and special cars. The history of the train, from Richard Trevithick's 1804 Penydarren Tramroad in South Wales to the latest electric trains are highlighted. Important developments in the history of the train are illustrated with detailed drawings many in color, while the picturesque side of the subject is rendered by reproductions of wood cuts, engravings and fine paintings.
