This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1991 Algonquin Books. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Maroon hardcover boards under jacket feature black cloth quarter trim with gold lettering along spine and are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny but does have light shelf wear mostly corners/edges. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 290 pages including appendix.

When news of the attack on Pearl Harbor came, fleet submarine USS Sculpin, stationed at Manila, quickly put out to sea in search of enemy ships. Her junior ensign in charge of torpedoes, Corwin Mendenhall, made seven undersea patrols aboard the Sculpin in the Pacific. This is the story of those patrols. It is a detailed account of what serving aboard a wartime submarine requires. Along with the perils of attack at sea or air, submariners had to contend with imperfect torpedoes that often failed to operate properly. By V-J Day some 2,000+ Japanese navy and merchant vessels had been sent to the bottom of the sea. American submarines accounted for more than 55% of that number. But the costs were high. 22% of those who ventured to war on submarines failed to return. This is a detailed account accompanied with vintage photos
