This is a very good paperback. 1986 Viking Publishing. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight, NO creasing along spine. The cover is still clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear. Royal octavo book size or 7" x 10" with 384 pages including index.
The Story of English has been edited by Robert McCrum, William Cran, and Robert MacNeil. It is an excellent and comprehensive study of language and the English language history. The book was published as a companion to the PBS television series at the time. Along with the detailed text, it is extensively illustrated throughout. It presents the story of the English language, the historical aspects and current use.
