This is a good 2 volume set, 1901 Walter Dunne Publishing. Each volume is good and solid inside and out. CONDITION NOTES: The inside pages have light natural tanning from age but are overall very good. We did notice a few pages with some sentences underlined in pencil and included a photo as example. The majority of pages are unmarked. There is no serious foxing and the bindings are tight and straight. We did notice inside front cover Vol. 1 there is mild beginnings of compromised binding top edge, about 1" noticed separation, but pages are tight to binding and this is to be expected given age. Bound in grey hardcover boards, each volume has a paste-down on spine of title/Edition de Luxe. The hardcover boards on both are very good with mild shelf wear. The pages are rough cut edge, and feature gold gilt top edge only. The original tissue guards over frontispiece is still in place on both volumes including the second part of Volume 2, The English Constitution. Each volume is standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
Originally published by Walter Dunne as a 20 volume set featuring history and philosophy essays, this listing is for the 2 Volume Set, The Federalist and includes The English Constitution as Part 2 of Volume 2. The full title is The Federalist A Commentary On The Constitution of The United States Being a Collection of Essays by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. Includes Intro by Edward Gaylord Bourne. Part Two of Volume Two is The English Constitution by Walter Bagehot. Intro by Edwin Erle Sparks.
The edition is illustrated with photos on Japanese Vellum, etchings hand painted, and portraits of authors.
