This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1994 Warner Books. INSCRIBED by author on title page: "To Elizabeth in celebration of our shared enthusiasm for the Civil War John G Waugh 7-2-94". Rest of pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Maroon hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature tan quarter trim. The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 635 pages including index.
The Class of 1846 by John G. Waugh is subtitled From West Point to Appomattox Stonewall Jackson George McClellan and Their Brothers. It contains a foreword by James McPherson. No other class from West Point has been so indelibly written into history as the one that graduated in 1846. At one time or another, Jackson, McClellan, A.P. Hill, George Pickett, Cadmus Wilcox, and George Stonemason were in the class. The class produced 20 generals. This book is the fascinating chronicle of these men, their training, personalities and their fate. The book was meticulously researched using diaries, letters, archives and more. Vintage photo spreads bring the history to life.
