The accompanying dust jacket is still clean and shiny with only very light shelf wear. Medium octavo book sizes or 6.5" x 9.5" with 431 pages including index and illustrated endpapers front and back.
From the dust jacket; " of all the days on all the field where American soldiers have fought, the most terrible was Sept. 17th, 1862." The Civil War battle that raged at Antietam Creek in Maryland exceeded the human toll in all of previous American history. It was pivotal to the war and this is the complete story. The author drew on newly discovered material , diaries, dispatches, and letters to recreate the vivid drama. Robert E Lee was pitted against George B McClellan - the general with every soldier's quality except one.... the will to fight. The book tells the story of both generals and the men in ranks with clarity and authenticity.
