This is a good 5 volume set of hardcovers. 1907 D.C. Heath Publishing. PLEASE READ CONDITION NOTES IN DESCRIPTION. THERE IS ONE FLAW VOLUME FIVE. Each hardcover is good inside and out. There is light natural tanning to inside pages from age but they are good inside and out. Previous owners name neatly written in script inside each front hardcover on blank page top edge. We did notice a few pages in volume two that have small notes written in margins but very few pages in any volume are marked. The bindings are tight and straight. Red hardcover boards feature title and Dante silhouette front cover. The covers are very good given age and clean. NOTE ADDITIONAL CONDITION NOTES PLEASE!! Each volume has an illustrated frontispiece that originally had a tissue guard in place between frontispiece and title page. FOUR of the volume still have the tissue guard, Volume One does NOT. IN ADDITION in Volume Five the first two blank pages and frontispiece are LOOSE, laid in to volume. Rest of pages in each volume appear tight to binding, this being the only loose page we saw. It is not a text page, just blank page and frontispiece. Each volume is smaller size, designed to be a "pocket" book for easy carrying in purse or pocket and reading anywhere. 16mo book size or 4.5" x 7" each.

This is a set of the epic poems and sonnets of Dante. This edition has been translated by E.H. Plumptre with notes, studies, and estimates. The first three volumes contain "The Divine Commedia". The fourth volume is devoted to Canzoniere or minor poems. The work is concluded and brought together in the fifth volume of "Studies".
